Scott #3b. Stanley Gibbons
#4b. Fragment of an envelope with the right hand half of a
vertically bisected two pence greyish slate "Britannia" stamp.
The bisect is tied to the fragment by the barred oval numeral "6"
cancellation. On reverse is the dated cancellation "AU9 1854"
in a small circle. The numeral "6" corresponds to the Parish
of St. Joseph, and this is believed to be the only example of the
bisected provisional used outside of Bridgetown. It was in two of the
greatest collections of Barbados stamps ever formed: Burrus and Hurlock.
On reverse of the part envelope is also the ownership mark of Stanley
Gibbons of London. A very rare item. Stanley Gibbons value for the
envelope is GBP 7,500 or US$ 15,150.00. |
