IONIAN ISLANDS

x 103315 cvr 1810. Folded letter sent from Constantinople, 10th November, 1810, addressed to the Minister of External Affairs of the Kingdom of Two Sicilies at Naples. Endorsed "Via Corfu", where on arrival it received the green marking "POSTA/SETTINSULARE/CORFU" of the Napoleonic period. Very rare as only four examples are known of these postal markings used on forwarded mail. The contents of the letter are of particular importance as it is an official dispatch describing the opening of hostilities between Ottoman and Russian Navies in the Black Sea, and many associated historical events. A superb document. $ 1,850.00
