x 176011 pcd Revolutionary propaganda cards, headed "Marseillaise" and "Funeral March", published in Minsk by the Russia Socialist Democratic Workers Party and sent stampless (concession) soldier's mail to STAVROPOL 5 10 17 and 8 10 17 (only a few days before the Bolshevik Revolution) from RESERVE FIELD POST OFFICE No. 144. Passed Military Censor at Minsk. Circulation of such propaganda among soldiers at the front contributed to mass desertion, collapse of the Russian war effort and to the revolution in the Autumn of 1917. Registered Advice card, relating to a parcel sent by a soldier in the 2nd COMPANY 186th ASLANDUZ (Azerbaijan) INFANTRY REGIMENT from YANOUTSY, Bessarabia, to UMAN, 5 1 18, with authorising chit bearing unit seals and signatures of the Chairman and secretary of the Committee. Despatched about two months after the Revolution and a month before the formation of the Red Army, this item illustrates the enactment of "Order Number One" of the Petrograd Soviet, which provided for the election of Soldier's Committees with powers to assume command and even override the orders of the Government. A splendid historical item from Bessarabia. 575.00

The second with blue-violet numeral "783", with ample margins, signed by Roger Calves but with a small paper fault. The third with a Retta cancellation in blue black, with large margins and showing an unusual offset of the red printing on reverse. Excellent lot of scarce stamps. Scott net retail is US$ 2,550.00.
