Horizontal strip of four, perforated vertically, but imperforated both at top and bottom, tied by "Z.A.R./PRETORIA/ O/ 14 OC 89/*" to a blue envelope internally addressed. THIS IS ONE OF THREE KNOWN PARTLY PERFORATED VARIETIES OF THIS ISSUE. Vertical pairs have not been found. Extraordinary cover of the Second Republic. {short description of image} HK0042 cvr Stanley Gibbons #195a, 196a, 197b, 199b, with inverted surcharges, and #188A, 191, 192, 193, 194, 195, 196, 197, 199, 214, normal stamps, all on one registered cover sent from NYLSTROM, on May 20th of 1899, addressed to Hamburg, Germany. The cover is franked with a fanciful assortment of surcharged stamps. On reverse are transit mark of PRETORIA May 20th, 1899 and arrival of HAMBURG. Interesting philatelic souvenir of the war period. 600.00
