Scott #32 variety. Fine cover addressed to Cochabamba with 20
centavos deep green "arms" bisected, paying a correct 10
centavos rate. This is the upper-right half of a diagonally bisected
stamp. It is tied by a geometrical cork cancellation of wedges, in
black. Few wrinkles on the envelope. Very scarce and attractive. (Our
inventory 22419). |

Scott #43. Ten centavos yellow brown tied by segmented cork cancellation to an envelope sent from Potosi to Paris, France. In front it has the circular datestamp of POTOSI OCT 31 1894. On reverse it has the transit marking of "CORREOS Y TELEGos JUJUY 15 NOV 94". Naturally the envelope entered the Argentine mails in Jujuy at the border with Bolivia. From there it traveled to Buenos Aires where it received the transit postmark "BUENOS AIRES NV 18 94". It was then placed on a French Paquebot where it received the blue octagonal French maritime marking "....PAQ.FR.N.6. 22 NOV 94". So far, so good. It is a fully prepaid 10 centavos cover sent from Potosi to France in 1894, which is in and by itself scarce. Someone, at some point, added two stamps of Argentina "Bernardino Rivadavia" 1 centavo brown, stamps of 1892-1895, (Scott #93). which are tied to the lower-left corner of the envelope by an unreadable datestamp and a cork cancellation. Could these stamps have been cancelled in transit at Jujuy? No doubt this is a private fantasy. |
