POSTAL STATIONERY
32801 pcd Unitrade #UX7, UX11. Matched pair of postal cards postmarked "Black Brook" and "Loggieville". Both cancelled by the hand-cut cork device "OK". Fascinating history of how this came about. A Very Rare matched pair. Maybe irreplicable.
In 1889, "Black Brook" was a post village in Northumberland County, New Brunswick, near the mouth of the Miramichi River, and had a Post Master named Andrew Loggie. By 1895 the name of the village and post office had been changed to "Loggieville", as it is known today. At least two different, and probably more, handcut killers as here illustrated "OK", were used at both "Black Brook" and "Loggieville" between 1889 and 1896. As Andrew Loggie the Post Master and his brother Robert were the leading general merchants in the village at this time, it is assumed that the village was renamed for them.
